Chunky Funky Wood

We have been experimenting with the square edged skirting board, and Eddie produced some thick skirting, thicker than the norm. It's 25 mm thick instead of the standard 20mm. He brought it home, we waxed it, and it looks amazing!!!! So we took a photo on our phone, with me holding it against a white door, balancing it on books to get the height, trying to get my hand out of the way and its no surprise therefore that the photo was rubbish. But we tried. Will get some better photos and launch them on our website. I think it will be a real seller as it's contemporary, chunky and funky, and looks absolutely beautiful.

I have also been resourcing door handles. Watch this space for some funky products to compliment your doors. Again, I think this will be a real seller and will appeal to people who want to add a contemporary feel to their home without replacing doors and skirting etc.

London & Butlins!

Well, I walked around Chelsea for around 4 hours. Completely crippled myself, despite wearing good shoes, but I managed to speak to around 8 interior designers who were very responsive to our products. Two of them wanted quotes and samples for projects they were working on, and it was well worth the mission.

Two days later we went to Butlins on 'holiday' - ie a 7 day work out running around after our 2 and 3 year olds. So now we're back we need a proper holiday, where you do absolutely nothing but rest - like that's going to happen!

While we were on holiday we had some great ideas for our business. Firstly, we want to offer square edge skirting board which is hugely contemporary and looks really smart. We also want to offer contemporary ironmongery (handles and hinges to the non-joiner like me). We think our website needs sprucing up but that costs money we don't have. We also set ourselves some targets for the year ahead. All of this while watching Billy Bears Magic Show AGAIN :-)

Canvassing!

Am feeling like an MP, short of knocking on people's doors I'm not sure what more we can do. Just got to hope we have enough friends to vote for us and that readers of the Northern Echo will like us and up the votes.

Am off to London tomorrow to visit some interior designers and top end furniture shops in Chelsea, with our products. So fingers crossed they like what they see and make orders.

Next week we're going to Butlins with the kids so that will be nice - just hope the weather gets better! When I come back it's a case of contacting as many people as possible to sell our stuff, if anyone knows anyone and can refer them to us then that would be a great start! You can contact us at enquiries@funkywood.co.uk or telephone 01325 313031.

Firstly, we are absolutely THRILLED to be a finalist on the ifwecanyoucan challenge!!!!!

The judges on the panel were so supportive of our idea and gave us some brilliant advice for the future. Our products are unique, funky, designer, eye-catching, and we have a sound back office system to deal with customer enquiries.

About me? I have a love for people from all walks of life. I grew up walking the streets with my friends (much to my parents distaste) and loved socialising. Once I left school and went to university, I moved to London where I was loved for being the 'geordie' although from South Durham I hardly had a geordie accent as we all know it. I got a bit fed up of London - it was the tube commute that killed it - so came home. Managed to spend a few months abroad teaching english and getting to know some really cool people. I met my husband in Manchester and moved there for a while, ended up running my own office, and marrying Eddie! Our two children followed shortly afterwards and we moved back home to my beloved North East.

Eddie is the one who had the idea. I was too busy changing nappies, making milk, and running on 3 hours of broken sleep a night (if you've got kids you'll understand walking through the town pushing your pushchair with your eyes closed, because you just can't keep them open any longer). Eddie produced these amazing designs and Funky Wood was born.

A few months later we are finalists in the ifwecanyoucan challenge, we're flying by the seat of our pants and we are LOVING IT.

Please please please please please please VOTE FOR US!!!! We NEED YOUR vote! We need your vote more than the tories/labour/lib dems ever needed your vote! Please pick us! We probably won't be able to change the government but we CAN grow the North East manufacturing industry, give people jobs, and help make our region shine. Please VOTE FOR FUNKY WOOD!! (yes, I am begging, I have no shame :-) )
